Where There's a Will

Producers Vision

When this script was presented to me it was the simple charm of the piece that caught my attention. The writer presented a contemporary romantic drama, with lead players of mass appeal that display courage, humour, love, betrayal  and triumph as they make their way through the story.

Within the heart of this present day story resides its hidden treasure - William Shakespeare and The Hereafter Literary Council. Upon the council sit such greats as Homer, Charles Dickens, Mary Shelley, Emily Bronte, Robbie Burns, Mark Twain and Conan Doyle. From a Producer's perspective the opportunity to present these historical characters to a 21st Century audience as an integral element within a contemporary work, is one of the things that excites me most about the piece. The characters have been researched and written faithfully to ensure that history is not sacrificed and also to ensure that these roles attract some of today's greatest named actors. In particular the characters of Mary Shelley and Emily Bronte have been blended into the main narrative with such a light hand that their presence within present day society provides us with a magical scattering of situation comedy while retaining complete credibility.  We are very lucky to have Fay Ripley and Eva Pope attached to these roles and I believe that their on screen chemistry will result in explosive performances.

The main protagonist of Events within Tony's life is of course William Shakespeare.  Once again the Writers has given us the character of the Bard as a spectre, who when we first meet him is a little bit sad and a little scary.  While Shakespeare is key in Tony's development throughout the story, it is clear from the start that he ha his own agenda for the relationship. When we first meet the Bard he is dishevelled and dirty in appearance. As a result of his friendship with Tony and his interaction with the modern world he evolves as a person. As he rediscovers the frustration and inspiration of life, his personal appearance transforms until his physical splendour is completely reinstated. The writers  have executed Shakespeare's character with great humour mixed with a little bit of artistic temperament and a lot of mischief.

As our main character Tony matures through his story, we watch as he learns to take responsibility for his own destiny. As the love story unfolds between him and Jemma, we look on as she becomes the empowered heroine and the story results in giving us a modern day couple, who, despite what obstacles life throws their way, are triumphant in their unity.

With a close attention to detail in the production design that the kaleidoscope of backdrops demands, the wonder of make up and a magical element to the lighting, I know that Deep Water Films will bring to the big screen, a visual feast that will both stimulate and delight audiences all over the world with mass appeal. This is truly one of the most original films that modern day cinema will ever see.

Statement

In presenting a period piece within a contemporary present day story, we will be taking the audience on a visual and dramatic adventure, that spans several centuries against the backdrops of modern day London, the charm of Stratford Upon Avon and the ethereal world of the Hereafter Literary Council.

The commitment of interest from Director Clare Kilner (The Wedding Date) is a most exciting development for the project.  Clare will deliver a funny, poignant and highly commercial film and I am so excited to have the chance to work with her.

Deep Water Films have developed a strong core team whose creative talents, business acumen and dedication to the pursuit of producing original films within the independent sector, are paramount to our existence. A large part of our remit is to combine established names of both cast and production crew alongside new and as yet undiscovered talent. This will result in our producing rich visual films with a strong narrative while nurturing the industry’s future greats. ‘Where There’s A Will’ will launch that very brand.

Thank you to all those reviewing this proposal.
