![]() Mark has just completed a dark orchestral score for the supernatural thriller “Within” screening this year in Cannes. His other recent film work illustrates his different styles of writing which include the menacing sound design driven score for “House of 9” starring Dennis Hopper, Kelly Brook and Asher D (Bullet Boy), the more traditional “Out of Bounds” starring Sophia Miles (Thunderbirds, Underworld) and Celia Imrie (Bridget Jones, Calendar Girls) and the minimalist modern classical approach for “Married/Unmarried starring Gina Bellman (Coupling) and Ben Daniels (Cutting it). These latest projects demonstrate Marks diverse tastes and the maxim that there should be no boundaries in film music. Anything is possible. Although classically trained, his career initially began as a songwriter signed to various labels in the States (Warners, MCA/Backstreet). When his songs began to be picked up and used in a succession of low budget films including Elliot Kastners ”Oxford Blues” (Rob Lowe), it led him to scoring a number of films for Charles Bands Empire Pictures including the “Trancers” series starring Helen Hunt (As Good as it Gets, Twister) which to date has been shown five times on British T.V. once as an Alex Cox choice for his Videodrome cult movie series as the inspiration for “Terminator”. Basing himself in Los Angeles at this time Mark worked on a succession of Horror and Sci-Fi movies including “Dark side of the moon” starring Joe Turkel (Blade Runner) and Brian Yuznas ‘Outrageous’ (Daily Mail) “Society” which played for sixteen weeks at The Prince Charles Leicester square and was a top five opener in the West End .On returning to England Mark was commissioned to write the music for the first two series of “Thief Takers” for Carlton . These sixteen one hour shows were hugely successful, pulling in audiences of more than 10 million and was instrumental in director John Mackenzie (A Long Good Friday) contacting Mark to work on his first return back into television, the BBC series “Looking after Jo Jo” starring Robert Carlyle. John used him again to score the spy thriller “Aldrich Ames: Traitor Within” starring Timothy Hutton and Joan Plowright, for Paramount . Mark then went on to write for various projects including the score for “Shaka Zulu” starring James Fox, Omar Sharif and Karen Allen, which was recorded in London (Air studios with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conductor Nicholas Dodd) and Rome. He has written for a variety of projects for television, including Michael Atwells disturbing profile on Myra Hindley and many documentary series including the award winning “Shock of the old” (Ch 5 series) Alan Yentobs “Brit Art” (BBC series) “Mysteries of the Ancients” (Ch 5 series) “Dispatches, and numerous shows for Discovery and National Geographic. He has also written all the music for the last three years for The Rolex Awards in Tokyo, Paris, and most recently New York including the music for the short films in competition. Marks work in commercials include campaigns for Coca Cola, Carling, Tennants , Mars, Ford, Castrol, Grolsch, Foxes, Vodafone, Smirnoff and Ikea. Mark's recent credits include Body Amour, Blood Monkey, Croc, In the Spiders Web and The Hive. All enquires to enquiries@deepwaterfilms. |
